As one reviewer mentioned, it is a lot of bling. It's a flashy, attention grabbing watch, but I thought the pictures made that pretty clear. I haven't tried with the leather band, because the steel band was one of the things that drew me to this, but I assume it would still look great and dull a little of the flashiness as well. With the steel band, I'm not sure it's an every day watch, as it may be a tad overwhelming, but I think it would be with the leather band.
As for the self winding part, it's exactly what you'd expect. If you're wearing it, my guess is it will self wind. You'd have to be pretty darn still with the watch on your arm for the self wind to not work. If you don't wear it for a day or two, you're going to have to re-set the watch and wind it to get it started.
Bottom line, I bought it for the bling, and the attention it commands, so I am thrilled with the watch. I had 4-5 people comment on how nice it looked and how it stood out the first two days I wore it!
